The Division of Children and Youth Services (DCYS) is ready to launch its exciting new initiative focused on a Prevention and Diversion programming grant funded through the Union County Youth Services Commission. The Union County Drop-In Centers will serve as key locations for this program and provide a safe and engaging environment for Youth County residents in grades 6 to 12.
There will be four main locations for the Drop-In Centers, each assigned a designated weekday: Roselle on Mondays, Hillside on Tuesdays, Rahway on Wednesdays, and Plainfield on Thursdays. Starting in September 2023, we will introduce a rotating schedule for Fridays as well.
The program aims to create a positive and enriching experience for the youth, offering a wide range of activities and resources. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in fun activities, receive snacks, access tutoring and homework help, explore life skills, and enjoy recreational activities and arts/crafts based on monthly character traits such as respect, emotional regulation, growth mindset, empathy, gratitude, and kindness. To further enhance the experience, we will occasionally host guest speakers who will inspire and motivate our youth.
